but we also want you to think hard about it before you
make that click. Most importantly, you need to share our values and beliefs. By
joining us, you are making a personal commitment to
yourself and to every other woman. It is a commitment to
live by these values, to uphold them, and to work for
the empowerment of women always in everything you do.
As a member of
Banat Akhir Zaman,
- I
believe that we must resist sexism wherever we find
it, as well as the sectarianism, classism and racism
that come hand in hand with it
- I
believe that women have the right to a physically,
emotionally and mentally healthy life
- I
believe in the rights of women to have control of
their bodies, and that would include, among other
things, their rights for safe and legal abortions,
their rights to express their sexuality freely, and
their rights to proper sexual education and
healthcare
- I
believe that lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and
queer women are entitled to civil rights and
protection from discrimination
- I
believe it is important to believe in women and to
support them, to get them to believe in themselves
and believe in their ability to pursue their
ambitions and needs
- I
believe that we have to end sexual harassment and
violence against women, especially within the family
- I
believe that the barriers against women entering
male-dominated fields (such as engineering, or
business, for example) should be removed, and that
women should have equal opportunities and equal pay
as men
- I
believe that economic empowerment is the key to
women's independence and that I should use my
purchasing power wisely and responsibly towards
society and towards the environment
- I
believe that the Lebanese legal system is extremely
unjust and that we must work towards ending all the legal, as
well as the social and political, discrimination
against women
- I
believe that women must lead the way in condemning
all kinds of violence and of promoting peaceful and
efficient solutions to our problems
- I
believe it is important to explain to people --
especially women -- what feminism is, and what it
means to our lives.
Therefore, I willingly choose to become a member of
Banat Akhir Zaman, and accordingly, I pledge to
commit to feminism and to empowering women on the
personal, social, economic and political levels.
